Pupcake
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup applesauce or one mashed banana
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
Frosting
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
Pupcake
Preheat oven to 350℉. Grease and line one small heart shaped pan (or one 6" round cake pan), and 5 wells of a cupcake pan.
Add all the wet ingredients (oil, peanut butter, pumpkin puree, and egg) to a bowl and whisk until smooth.
Add the flour and baking soda, and mix with a spatula until just combined.
Place a heaping tablespoon of batter into each of the 5 cupcake liners, then pour the remaining batter into the cake pan.
Bake for approximately 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the cupcakes/cake comes out clean.
Allow the cake and cupcakes to cool for at least 30 minutes before frosting.
Frosting
Add the yogurt and peanut butter to a bowl, and stir until combined and smooth. Optionally, separate this into two bowls and add a touch more peanut butter to one bowl, to give yourself varying shades to work with!
Spread the icing over the cakes, and let your pup dig in!
Serving Size
- I don't recommend feeding this entire cake to your dog in one sitting!! Hound is a big boy (80 pounds) and I still only let him have 1 cupcake - or the equivalent amount of cake - with each meal. If you have a little one, consider scaling this down.
Substitutions
- Feel free to replace the applesauce with 1 mashed ripe banana. You can also replace the pumpkin puree with applesauce or a mashed ripe banana. Basically, you just need 1 cup total of mushy fruits/vegetables!
Storage
- This cake can be stored in the fridge for up to a week, or you can freeze it for up to 3 months.
