Victoria is often overshadowed by its big sister Vancouver, and when it is visited, it’s usually as a quick stop on the way to exploring areas like Tofino and Ucluelet. But it’s got its own very cool vibe, with some amazing things to do and awesome food stops. I’ve been a handful of times now, and made a list of my fav things!

If I only had one day in Victoria, here’s what I would do…
Sunrise Run (or walk)
I love starting the day at sunrise with a lil exercise. We just ran from our hotel; the city has so many lovely paths and waterfront trails, you’re sure to find one near you! Whether you’re running, walking, or rolling, get out there and kick off the day with a show.

Breakfast at Jam Cafe
Every time I come out to Vancouver or Victoria, Jam Cafe is a MUST. It’s just so good!!! It can get busy though, so try to get there early if possible. I’ve always lined up outside the door about 20 mins before they open! My recommendation? The Veggie Bowl.

Visit the Raptors
The Raptors is located about an hour outside of Victoria, and their goal is to bring people closer to birds of prey; they strive to educate, illuminate and inspire a sense of personal responsibility for the future of both birds of prey and the planet. They offer interactive experiences with a variety of birds of prey species – you can watch flying demonstrations OR book a hands-on encounter with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons and more!

I highly recommend booking one of the “Closer” encounters! As an animal lover, it was very cool to see these beautiful creatures up close, and I loved learning about the work the Raptors are doing to protect the birds and their environment.

This is a bit out of the city – it’s actually along the road to Tofino, so if you’re driving out there I’d save this for then. But if not, it’s still worth the trip just to see the birds!
Kinsol Trestle
The Kinsol Trestle is on the way to the Raptors and Tofino, and makes the perfect quick stop to shake out your legs! It is one of the tallest free-standing timber rail trestle structures in the world (187m long and 44m tall!). It’s about a 2km round trip if you go just to the trestle and back from the nearest parking lot, but you can also continue along the trail for many manyyy kilometers if you’re looking for a longer hike.

Walk around LoJo, check out Fantan Alley
LoJo (Lower Johnson Street) and Fan Tan Alley are the perfect stop for an afternoon stroll. LoJo is full of colourful heritage buildings and cool local shops – boutique clothing, home goods, and artisan finds. Fan Tan Alley is the narrowest street in Canada and a little slice of history tucked neatly away into Chinatown! It used to be a gambling district, but now it’s packed with quirky stores, cute cafés, and hidden gems. It’s a great area to explore, shop, and soak up the vibe of the city!

Run, Walk, or Bike along Dallas Road Waterfront Trail
Something about a waterfront pathway that overlooks the OCEAN (rather than a river, like I’m used to at home) is just so magical!! The Dallas Road Waterfront Trail takes you along the coast, and passes by some really nice parks as well; try to pop in to Beacon Hill Park and Clover Point Park for some beautiful gardens! And make sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, like sea otters and whales.

Havn Sauna
Ok so we didn’t get to go to Havn Sauna because our day was a little packed, but it seeeeems like a really great way to spend a few hours. It’s a floating spa in Victoria’s inner harbour with 4 saunas, 3 hot tubs, 2 cold pools, green space and relaxation areas, and food & drinks.

Dinner at Red Fish Blue Fish
When asking friends for recommendations in the area, Red Fish Blue Fish was on every single list. And I can see why!! Would recommend getting the salmon fried fish and the chowder, and then sitting on the docks to enjoy with a view.

Sunset at Walbran Park
Walbran Park feels like a hidden gem because it’s kind of hard to find, but it’s so worth it. You get panoramic views of the sun setting over the hills, and the most magical colour spray over the ocean. I beg you to not leave immediately after the sun goes down! The best colours come about 20 mins after the actual time of sunset.

Note: this park is in a residential area, so please be mindful of where you park (only in designated areas!) and be respectful.

There’s without a doubt a LOT more to do in this beautiful city, but if you only have ONE day… these are my recommendations! Happy travels 🙂
